REV Communications Inc. is on the cutting edge of this technology. We develop and deploy advanced IP surveillance solutions, using major technological advancements in the video surveillance industry. This technology offers real-time delivery of video and still images from a location via a network connection. IP-based streaming video surveillance lets organizations monitor and respond to situations more effectively and affordably, via the internet. Video is transmitted across networks and recorder on central servers. REV Communications provides consultation, design, installation, training and ongoing maintenance for a full range or surveillance systems. IP video is for all clients who are looking to stay current and remain scalable.

Network IP Cameras

Network IP cameras connect to a computer network. They each have respective nodes, or network addresses, and act as video servers on the network. This allows a user to view the video from any computer equipped with a web browser such as Internet Explorer. No special cables are required; network cameras can plug in to any computer jack available on the local network. Surveillance can thus be handled remotely from anywhere in the world, so long as a user knows the IP address of the camera. Numerous protocols are used depending on the make and model of the camera, including TCP/IP, HTTP, and FTP.

What exactly is CCTV?

Very simply, CCTV means closed circuit television. This is to say that unlike television stations that use cameras to record television shows, closed circuit camera footage is not broadcasted. Rather it is recorded onto either a DVR (digital video recorder) or an NVR (Network video recorder).

CCTV security camera systems are widely used by the retail, restaurant, institutional, banking and gaming industries to protect their assets and reduce shrink. What makes these security systems CCTV – has nothing to do with the type of camera or recording equipment used. It is just a term that the industry adopted fifty years ago.

With the advent of new IP Cameras that can be accessed via the Internet anywhere in the world, a debate has been sparked on whether or not IP cameras can be considered CCTV. Since the footage is, in a way, being broadcasted, some would argue “no”. However since the footage can be password protected and kept private from the general public then it could still be considered CCTV.
